To make Reiki and other healing modalities more widely understood and accessible. To teach Reiki as a way to heal the self and others and to live a divinely inspired life filled with joy, gratitude and service. To provide a safe and supportive environment for the highest level of healing to take place. To promote connection in the community.
What is Reiki? Reiki is a complementary health approach in which practitioners place their hands lightly on or just above a person with the goal of directing energy to help facilitate the person’s own healing response. It’s based on an Eastern belief in an energy that supports the body’s innate or natural healing abilities. Reiki is used to manage symptoms and improve wellbeing.
What is the Origin of Reiki? Reiki is of Indian origin, then rediscovered by Buddha, then lost. It was then rediscovered by Mikao Usui, a Japanese Christian Theologist in the late 1800s. Reiki was passed on to Dr. Hayashi, then Mrs Takata, a Japanese American.
How does Reiki work? Everything in this world, including every cell in the body, is energy and one characteristic of energy is to be in a state of equilibrium. The body contains 144 energy centers called chakras. When our chakras are out of alignment we can experience disturbances in the body that show up as physical or emotional symptoms and eventually become disease (dis-ease). Reiki flows through the practitioner and into the body to create balance and harmony of the cells and chakras. Reiki works on the physical, mental and aura levels. Reiki flows where there is a need, the practitioner is merely a portal.
What is the science behind Reiki? By quantum physics we know that energy exists and moves first, followed by matter. The body is made up entirely of quantum energy at different frequencies, or levels of vibration. The slowest vibrations make up bones. Muscles, organs and blood are a higher vibration. Reiki is a non-polarized subatomic energy that is released into the body. When it leaves the subatomic world it must polarize as it enters the physical world. Because by nature it is a harmonic, it will polarize and form a “mirror image” thereby restoring the body to its natural frequency which is a state of harmony and well being.
What are the benefits of Reiki? Reiki may reduce pain, anxiety, depression and fatigue. Reiki may enhance quality of life and overall wellbeing. Reiki may improve confidence, boost mood, and promote a sense of calm, inner peace and relaxation. Reiki does not take the place of a medical practitioner nor is it intended to diagnose or treat specific medical conditions. The only requirement for reiki to work is the willingness of the client to get well.
What are the side effects of reiki? There are no known side effects of reiki. Some people feel calm, peaceful or energized. Some feel tired. You may notice issues or emotions coming into your awareness after the session. This is a good thing. These are coming up to be healed. Pay gratitude to the issue/emotion, then let it go. This may happen for days to weeks after the session. Drink plenty of water.
What can I expect during a session? Clients will first discuss the reason for seeking a reiki session including any dis-ease in the emotional or physical body. You will then lie fully clothed on a comfortable massage table with a warm blanket. The practitioner will place hands on or above the body in a series of locations starting with the head and moving toward the feet, then on the back. A balancing technique will be used at the end to balance chakras and remove any excess energy if any. You will then have the opportunity to discuss your experience and findings with the practitioner.
What is Distance Reiki? Reiki functions beyond all space and time. Distance Reiki works according to an ancient principle called the Hermetic Law of Similarity which holds that we are all connected and part of a larger whole. Invoking this law during a distance session allows the practitioner to connect to the energy field of the client. You will speak to the practitioner over the phone at beginning of session. You will then be asked to lie down in a comfortable spot. The provider will complete the session, then call you afterwards for discussion.
How long is a session? Sessions are approximately 75-90 minutes. They are intuitively guided meaning each session may be different. One session may require more hands on healing, another more discussion.
