Astrology

I can’t seem to remember the exact age I was when I first stumbled across astrology. I’m pretty sure it was a stumble though... I have hillbilly roots and was raised within traditional western Christian beliefs. I also can’t recall a time where I did not know I was a Sagittarius…

Yours Truly, the young Sunbury Sagittarian

I have memories as a youngin’ (again- hillbilly roots) reading about Sagittarians, not questioning what I read, and thinking, “yep, that makes total sense.”

At age 18, my best friend and I decided to get our first tattoo together. For me, this decision wasn’t made for the sole purpose of wanting a specific tattoo. It was more of a way to act on my new found freedom to make a decision for my body because I finally could. Nevertheless, it was scary and if I was going to regret it- I wasn’t going to do so alone. Whether bestie really wanted a tattoo or just knew I needed support, she joined me to experience this “first” hand in hand.

What does one actually get tattooed in this scenario? Their zodiac sign of course!

As the years went on, my interest in astrology increased. I started to feel as if the Sagittarius personality didn’t completely fit me… BUT with true Sagittarius spirit, I remained on mission to find true meaning in all things.

What I found was that there is way more to astrology than the one zodiac sign and a weekly horoscope. The first revelation was that there are actually three pillars to your personality- your rising, sun, and moon sign placements.

Because I know you’re now wondering…

My rising sign is Leo ♌️, Sun sign is Sagittarius ♐️, and Moon sign is Libra ♎️.

I couldn’t stop there…

I learned there are approximately 12 different types of astrology that are practiced, not including historical traditions. In fact, almost every culture on the planet has practiced some form of astrology over the centuries. Most human civilizations based their culture on systems of astrology, which provided a link between the cosmos with the conditions and events on earth. These practices served as the foundation of their spiritual culture and knowledge-systems used for practical purposes such as the calendar and medicine. Astrological tradition even contributed to the development of astronomy as the study of the skies provided invaluable insights about celestial bodies. For centuries, civilization looked to the sky for guidance and survival.

I knew I wanted to learn more.

It wasn’t until I found myself exhausted with life and searching for understanding as to why I couldn’t catch a break when I decided to have my first astrology reading. I had already had a couple years of therapy under my belt, was new on my Reiki journey, yet still found myself doubting if I was up for the challenges I found myself facing.

I reached out to Nikkea Walkker and scheduled an astrology reading. I didn’t know much about Shamanic Astrology at the time, but it didn’t matter. I was so deep in the thick of life and needed assistance to see the light… the big picture… to understand what all of the pain was for.

Prior to my reading, Nikkea asked for the date, time, and location of my birth. She emailed me a copy of my birth chart, a chart of the current transits, and a hand out of my power days for the following 12 months to reference during the phone reading. Nikkea started the session with a brief overview of Shamanic Astrology and how she reads the charts. She discussed the important aspects of my birth chart in detail including my Moon phase, Moon sign and Venus/Mars sign. She went into detail explaining the current planet placements and how, in relation to my birth chart, it could present itself in my daily life. Her offering included a recording of the session that I could reference later at any time.

My reading was exactly what I needed at the time. It gave me an understanding of the challenges I was facing and a different lens to see my life through. It gave it all meaning and purpose. Most importantly, I left the session feeling empowered. I promised to gift myself a birthday reading each year from then on.

This experience not only increased my curiosity and eagerness to learn more about the science of astrology… I straight up became a full blown believer.

We are made of stars.

The planets impact who we are and the energetics on earth.

I am now that girl that uses astrology every day. In my relationships, my career, health, and spiritual journey. Despite all the haters. 😋

A typical meme sent to me from my husband

I found astrology to be a tool that allows me to understand the energy that I’m feeling personally and within the collective.

Astrology gives me opportunity.

It allows me to foresee the potential ways energy may show up in my daily life. I then get to decide how I want to work with the energy. I make a decision to either take action… or not… depending on whether saving my energy is what’s best at that time or action is required to achieve my goals.

I’ve slowly grown from a place of reacting to the energy that came my way to a place where now I work in relationship with the energy. And by doing so, I am becoming more of my truest self each day.

So… Here I am today, thrilled beyond words, that Beth, Britney and I get to host Nikkea Walkker at Reiki Health and Wellness. It’s such an honor to offer an experience like this to people within our community.
